MERIDIAN —     Editor's note: School news is a schedule of upcoming events, programs and other activities on area school and college campuses.

    Here's a look at upcoming programs and events at Meridian's city, county, private and faith-based schools:    

     • Today – Crestwood Elementary Accelerated Reader Celebration, from 1:15 p.m.-2:15 p.m.

    • Today – National Catholic Schools Week. Raise the Standards: In Our Nation

    – Red, white and blue dress day – Costume contest (anything goes)

    – Prayer service, flag ceremony and choir to sing patriotic songs

    – Students will decorate Valentine's Day cards for military troops overseas

    • Wednesday –  Crestwood Elementary Accelerated Reader Celebration, from 1:15 p.m.-2:15 p.m.

    • Thursday – National Catholic Schools Week. Raise the Standards:  In Our Vocations

    – Open House, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

    – Students invite their pastors to children’s liturgy for Pastor Appreciation Day

    – Refreshments served in Family Life Center following Mass

    • Thursday – Poplar Springs Elementary Science Fair

    • Thursday – MPSD District Reading Fair

    • Friday – National Catholic Schools Week. Raise the Standards: In Our Students (Higher Education)

    – Flashback to the ‘50s Dress Day – Sock Hop

    – Parent-Students competitive games

    – Lunch:  ‘50s Diner theme

    – Teachers give appreciation notes to students

    • Feb. 7 – Northwest Middle School Open House for Fifth Grade Parents, 5:30 p.m.
