UWA faculty colloquium planned for Nov. 16
LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The University of West Alabama presents the James E. Colquitt Faculty Colloquium on Monday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Callaway Schoolhouse, with a Phi Kappa Phi Academic Scholarship fundraising dinner served on the Spence-Moon House patio immediately following the presentation.
This semester, a student will share the podium with a faculty member for the first time. Amanda Peabody, a 2009 graduate of the UWA Honors Program, and Dr. Alan Brown, Department of Languages and Literature professor, present “The Evolution of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’” which traces the history of the fairytale from its beginnings as a folktale through postmodern, pop-culture revisions.
Remaining workshops and test dates for the American College Test (ACT) in 2009-10 have been announced at East Central Community College in Decatur.
The workshops, which are designed to assist students prior to taking the college entrance exam, are scheduled Feb. 2, 2010 and March 30, 2010, in Newton Hall, Room 60. Registration deadlines to reserve seating for each workshop are scheduled Jan. 29, 2010, and March 26, 2010.
Cost to attend each workshop is $10 and should be sent to ECCC Career-Technical Education, P. O. Box 129, Decatur, MS 39327.
Exams are scheduled Dec. 12; Feb. 6, 2010, April 10, 2010 and June 12, 2010. Respective deadlines to register for each test are Nov. 6, Jan. 5, 2010, March 5, 2010, and May 7, 2010.
The ACT will also be administered in Newton Hall, beginning at 8 a.m.
