Here's a look at upcoming events at community colleges and university in the surrounding areas:
Thursday – East Central Community College Division of Fine Arts will host its annual High School Choral Festival on the Decatur campus.
High school choirs from throughout the district, which includes Leake, Neshoba Newton, Scott and Winston counties, will be in attendance and will present a mass choir performance at 1:30 p.m. in Huff Auditorium.
Selections for the program will include “The Word Was God,” by Powell, “Kyrie” by Gabriella and “Wade in the Water” by Hogan. Parents are invited to attend and there is no charge for admission.
Serving as guest clinician will be James Hawkins, choir director at Jim Hill High School in Jackson since 1992. Three of Hawkins’ choirs recently received top honors at the Festival of Music in Toronto, Canada. His choirs have also performed at Carnegie Hall, the Morman Tabernacle Cathedral for the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., for former President George H.W. Bush during a visit to Jackson, and in Great Britain, Italy, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
