CEFCO begins endowment at MCC

Through the efforts of CEFCO Convenience Stores and local and area golfers, students at Meridian Community College will be getting a financial helping hand.

A $10,000 check was presented to College representatives Gerry Purvis, president of The MCC Foundation, and Diane Delk, Foundation accountant, after the conclusion of the CEFCO Charity Classic held June 23 at Briarwood Country Club. The money was earmarked for the C.E. Fikes (CEFCO) Endowment at MCC.

The endowed scholarship is named in honor of C.E. Fikes, a native of Cameron, Texas, and founder of Fikes Wholesale Inc., the holding company for CEFCO Convenience Stores, Fleet Fuel, Sunbelt Ice, CORD Financial Services and Group Petroleum Services.

Though this was the seventh year for the corporation to host a fund-raising golf tournament, it was the inaugural tournament in Mississippi.

“We talked to the vendor community here, listened to people and asked for advice,” said Dennis Kelley, vice president of marketing for CEFCO. “We want to be involved in the right thing,” he added.

CEFCO Convenience Stores have been operating in Central Texas since 1979. The company's commitment to outstanding service to their customers and community is summed up by the company's goal, "Do the right thing." The company has accomplished this goal by contributing thousands of dollars in support of the Children's Miracle Network and now by supporting student scholarships.
