Here's a look at upcoming events at local and area public, private and parochial schools:



• Friday – Presentation of the program “When I Grow Up,” 9 a.m., Poplar Springs Elementary School auditorium. Presented by the kindergarten classes at Poplar Springs, the presentation will celebrate the different roles of workers in our community through songs, dance, poetry, and visual arts.

• May 12 – Whole Schools Community Advisory Board coffee, 10 a.m., Poplar Springs Elementary School library.

• May 13-15 – MCT2 testing for Poplar Springs Elementary School students in grades 3-5.

• May 14 – Lauderdale County Schools will operate on a regular full-day schedule due to the administration of the state testing program.

• May 14 – A retirement reception honoring the 2007-2008 retirees of Meridian Public School District will be held from 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m., in the Temple Theater Ballroom.

• May 16 – Brown Bag concert at Poplar Springs Elementary School featuring the Meridian High School Lamplighters. Two shows at 11 a.m. and noon for students and parents.

• May 16 – Lauderdale County Schools will operate on the early dismissal schedule due to the administration of the state testing program.

Here's a look at upcoming events at Meridian Community College:



• Friday – Associate Degree Nursing Program Pinning Ceremony, 1:30 p.m., McCain Theater, Ivy Hall. For more information, Annette Rigby, (601) 484-8897.

Here's a look at upcoming events at East Central Community College, Decatur:



• May 12-30 – Three-week term summer class schedule. Classes are offered on the Decatur campus and at the Winston/Louisville Vocational Complex.

Courses in Decatur include General Biology I and Lab, Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab, Microbiology and Lab, Physical Science I and Lab, Microcomputer Applications, English Composition I, American History I, Developmental Algebra, College Algebra, Music Appreciation, Introduction to Sociology and Intro to Computer Concepts.

In Louisville, course offerings include Intro to Computer Concepts, College Algebra and American History I.

The deadline to register is May 13.

• May 31 – Application deadline for practical nursing, emergency medical technician and the healthcare assistant program. Requirements and applications are available on the college’s Web site, www.eccc.edu
