  • East Mississippi Community College:Summer enrollment up 32 percent
    Summer enrollment at East Mississippi Community College is up by 32.4 percent. As of June 18, a total of 2,292 students were enrolled – up 561 students from the same time last year.
    “We’re happy to see so many students taking advantage of summer classes, whether they’re getting a head start on the next academic year, or taking classes for their own personal enrichment,” said EMCC President Dr. Rick Young.
    “At EMCC, we’re all about knocking down the barriers that stand between people and opportunity. Financial aid is always available – and our district-wide tuition guarantee program begins in the fall.

  • Riley Hospital and Red Cross offer Babysitter Boot Camp
    Babysitting is often one of the first jobs a teen or preteen will have – and it comes with lots of responsibilities.
    “Babysitting is more involved than just ‘watching’ the child,” said Elizabeth Busbee, director of marketing for Riley Hospital.
    “Adolescents need to understand that a child’s life is in their hands, and the decisions they make may have serious consequences,” Busbee said.

  • Local student qualifies to compete at world's largest rodeo
    Chrissy Porter, a 12th-grade student at Enterprise High School has earned a position on the Mississippi high school rodeo team and will travel with fellow teammates to Farmington, New Mexico, July 19-25 to compete at the 61st Annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the breakway roping competition.
    Featuring more than 1,500 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the National High School Finals is the world's largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes.
