4-H horse exhibitors take it to state

TRACY ROBERTSON

My, what a week we had at the district and then at the state 4-H horse shows!

Fourteen youth from Lauderdale County qualified in several district events that made them eligible for the State 4-H Horse Show, which is held in Jackson the second week of July. Representing Lauderdale County include at district and at state included: Will and Marshall Alexander, Nathan and Hannah Chisolm, Barrett Kriegel, Shelby, Chase and Rivers Irby, Madison Overby, Leslie Pevey, Terren Sande, Jenna Seal, Steven Todd, and Tucker and Anna Wagner. They all did an excellent job.

Most of the events in which they competed include: Hunter, Equitation over Fences, Goat Tying, Barrels, Poles, Stakes, Halter classes, Western Pleasure, Pony Pleasure, Roping, Team Penning and several other classes. During the District Horse Show, Nathan Chisolm and Leslie Pevey won High Point Individuals and both qualified at the State 4-H Horse Show to travel to regionals that will be held in Arkansas this year.

Lauderdale County also had this year the 4-H Queen City Drill Team, consisting of most of the members aforementioned, as well as Justin Jenkins and Courtney Tucker. You might have seen this team performing at several equine events around town.

Other events that Lauderdale County represented were the Jr. Horse Bowl Team and Jr. Judging Team, consisting of team members Will Alexander, Madison Overby, Terren Sande and Jenna Seal of which the horse bowl team made it to state. Participating in our two Sr. Horse Judging Teams were Collin Kent, Barrett Kriegel, Ashley LaKatas, Meagan Lee, Justin Hyde, Leslie Pevey and Tucker Wagner and they all did a wonderful job representing Lauderdale County.

Now that the 4-H Horse Show season is winding down, it is time to start gearing up for the 4-H/FFA Livestock Show Season. The deadline for any market animals is Sept. 1. This is also the deadline for any breeding animals that you would like to show at the State Fair in Jackson. Dec. 1 will be the deadline for any breeding animals you would like to show at the district and Dixie National Jr. Round-Up.

If you have an animal that you would like to nominate for state, district, or Dixie, please call the local county Extension Office. The number for the Lauderdale County Extension Office is (601) 482-9764.
