June 19, 2007

It’s about time it rained.

I tell you, today is one of those days you’d rather be in the bed or relaxing with a good book. I love the sound of rain on the roof. If it had been raining like this in the morning, I’m not sure I would have been able to get myself out of bed.

In all seriousness, we really needed a good soaking rain. Let’s just hope we get a little more before the day is done. Who knows when we’ll get another good rain.

On the news front, we’ve got story coming up in tomorrow’s edition (we’ll probably have it posted online before 5 p.m.), about a new television feature on Natalee Holloway. It’s called “Haunting Evidence” and it airs tomorrow night at 9 p.m. on COURT-TV. We’ll talk to Dave Holloway, Natalee’s father, about what he thinks of the show’s tactics.

Dave, as many of you know, is a local insurance agent with State Farm and is one of the nicest, most caring individuals you’ll ever meet.

When I returned home to Meridian last year to take over this job, I saw Dave at a local eatery — the first time I’d seen him in years. I watched as person after person approached his table to discuss Natalee’s disappearance. Even though his meal was interrupted, he took the time to talk to every single person. I can’t imagine how tough it’s been for he and his family to go through all of this. My prayers are certainly with them.

Technology

I just love technology. Last week, we purchased two video cameras for our reporters. The idea was for them to bring back “breaking news” for footage on our Web site. This morning is a perfect example of what we’re looking for. Brian Livingston captured the scene of a morning traffic accident. When you click on the update, you can read about it and watch the footage. Pretty cool stuff for all you news junkies — myself included.

Riley Center season

The MSU Riley Center is expected to announce its new lineup of shows this afternoon at 5 p.m. As soon as the story is filed, we’ll post it on our site to share with our readers (my fingers are still crossed for Lauryn Hill).
