One Christmas morning, the little girl was sitting at her little kitchen table she had gotten for Christmas. After sipping on her “make believe tea” in her little plastic teacup, she decided to awaken her Grandpa who was dozing in his recliner.
“B-Paw, wake up! You want some tea? Wake up, B-Paw, you want some tea?” Rubbing his old fading eyes, he replied, “I would love some tea!” Playing along with her, he said, “Mmmmmm, this is the best tea I ever tasted, girl!”
“B-Paw, this is the best Christmas gift ever and we can have parties every day!” B-Paw explained that although the little kitchen and tea set was a really nice gift, it was not the BEST gift ever. In fact, the best gift was given a long, long time ago—over 2,000 years ago. The Grandpa went on to tell his very young granddaughter the story of the greatest Christmas gift ever given to all the people living on the earth.
This beautiful Christmas morning, the conversation between a grandfather and his granddaughter is a scripted, 30-minute TV show brought to me about three months ago by a couple of very talented cartoon animation producers from Columbia, Miss., Jake and Nancy Sager.
Nancy Sager is very committed to helping the deaf, especially young children, and is dedicated to getting all sorts of educational material via sign language and video to them. Their friend and fellow church member, Scott Rasco, had written the script about the birth of Jesus straight from the Holy Bible and they were asking my opinion about putting it to music and TV.
A long story short — we not only had a beautiful theme song written by my cowriter and producer, Gary Jolly of Philadelphia, Miss., but have now completed the TV special that will be seen on Christmas Day on TV stations across the State. I hope you will check the listings and try to have your family watch during the noon hour, Dec. 25th and enjoy this home-grown production, “The Greatest Christmas Gift” that gives us all hope for the nation and the world.
