1 JOHN 3:17 — “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has not pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?” Praise belongs to God as every need in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 has been met. Thanks to everyone who has generously given over the years to change lives physically, financially and spiritually. Each week I stand in awe of God as I witness God’s provision in our lives.
Two weeks ago our need was Christmas for 30 foster care children. I was amazed by God’s provision as 50 children were sponsored. However, I learned this week that 65 of the 600 foster care children at this point have not been sponsored. Therefore, this week our goal is to see how many of the remaining 65 we can sponsor. Following is the need from two weeks ago so you can review the information regarding this week’s need.
Today’s need is Christmas for 30 foster care children. I know this is a great deal of money, and to be honest, I would not have submitted this need unless I was confident that God had placed it on my heart. While talking to Maya Edwards with the Wesley House Victim Service Agency, I realized that God was steering me to today’s need. While listening to her describe situations these children are facing, I kept thinking about James 1:27: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” These children are in the custody of the state of Mississippi through DHS, which has removed them from their homes as a result of neglect and abuse. They live in foster homes and shelters, and many have been separated from their siblings because of lack of space. The Wesley House is often the only source of Christmas for many individuals in our community. Last year the Wesley House provided Christmas for about 600 foster care children. It takes only $250 to provide Christmas for a child. Each Christmas package is specially put together for the needs of the individual child and carries with it the true meaning of Christmas – Christ! Hopefully as they open the packages, God is opening the hearts of those who have not accepted Him as Savior. The $250 will provide clothing, food, toiletries, and toys for one child. We have lined up volunteers to shop for each child personally. May the knowledge of Christ spread through generous giving during this season. Does it get any better than a child having Christmas while God is glorified? Help us spread the Good News this Christmas! Thank you for allowing God to show provision for these children through your prayers and giving.
For your information — Any story I write will be after an individual has been checked out through the Wesley House Clearing Procedure. Each individual must bring proof of I.D., pay stubs, tax records, and a social security number for each member of the household. In addition, any child over 18 must provide income information, copies of any outgoing bills, and proof of any subsidy such as food stamps, housing allowance, etc. There is an extensive application that proves who the people are and the situation they face. Phone calls are placed to verify employment and information provided. The money you give will go in full to the individual if you decide to help. God is so good, and thank you for being somebody God can use. Please pray for each story and see if God gives you the means to help. If God puts it on your heart, please do not use the excuse somebody else will take care of it because it might go undone.
