By now I’m sure most of you have at least heard of a new magazine in town called 393. It’s a social magazine highlighting local events in and around the Meridian area all while bringing a taste of style, fashion and beauty from local area businesses. Many of you have asked why the name 393? And it’s a simple answer, 393 is the first three digits of our zip codes here in East Mississippi. This magazine is not just for the Meridian people, it’s for all the surrounding counties with 393 as the first three digits of their zip code.
You’re probably asking yourself where did this idea come from and why Meridian? Back in July, I was working at The Clarion-Ledger for a magazine called VIP Jackson Magazine and I got a phone call from a high school classmate, Fredie Carmichael, who of course is the Editor of The Meridian Star. He had seen the magazine in Jackson and wanted to know if I was interested in moving back to Meridian to be the Editor of a social magazine here. Now being from Meridian and having all my family living in the area —this was a no brainer! After all — I was driving to Meridian just about every weekend to spend time with all my family and friends. I knew they would support my decision to move back to my hometown where I could spend more time with them. So in August I moved back to Meridian to start 393 Magazine.
For those of you who say there is nothing to do in Meridian, I beg to differ with your opinion. I have been to an event every week since I started in August and most of the time attending two a week. Everyone has welcomed the magazine with opens arms and I thank you for that. It has been great meeting all the people who put on these events. They are very passionate about their organizations and 393 is excited to help get the word out about their events. I try to hit all the events I know about — so if you see me out and about...please stop me and say hello. I look forward to meeting those of you who I haven’t met yet!
Our next issue will be out December 14th. It will feature a last minute gift guide for those people who are hard to buy for, party style statements, a Christmas Eve menu from Robert St. John and coverage from social events since October. You can go to our Web site at www.393mag.com to find out where you can get your free copy of the magazine. We are also offering year subscriptions for $24 for your guaranteed copy of the magazine. If you would like more information, call me at (601) 485-1270. Also, if there is an event you would like 393 to cover, please send me and email at jhenson@393mag.com. Whether it is events or comments, I look forward to hearing from you.
After being back in Meridian for three months, I can honestly say I think this was a great move for me. One thing I love about Meridian, you’re never going to go out to dinner and eat your meal all the way through without stopping to speak to someone you know. It puts a smile on my face just thinking about it.
Enjoy the magazine and I’ll see you out and about!
