Snow Closings

Winter storm-related closings and cancellations

MERIDIAN — This is a working list of closings and cancellations in East Mississippi due to the Winter Storm expected to hit the area late Thursday and early Friday. K-12 Schools:

Lauderdale County School District will be closed today.

Enterprise Schools will be closed today.

Newton schools will be closed today.

Quitman Schools will be closed today.

Meridian Public School District Superintendent Charlie Kent said a decision on whether will be made tomorrow morning, no later than 5:30 a.m.

Calvary Christian School, including their pre-school, will be closed.

Russell Christian Academy will be closed tomorrow and will re-open Monday.

St. Patrick's School will be closed.

Lamar School had already scheduled to be closed tomorrow for their winter break.

Day-care, child care:

 Local childcare and daycare centers — Highland Baptist Church, Poplar Springs Drive Methodist Day School, Collinsville — say they will base their decision on closing on what local public schools do.

Colleges:

Meridian Community College will be closed on Friday.

East Central Community College will be closed on Friday.

University of West Alabama and the Demopolis Higher Education Center will close Friday. Faculty, staff, and students should report to classes Monday as scheduled. Evening classes for Thursday night will not be canceled.

Mississippi State University Meridian Campus will be closed Friday. It will be open for Thursday evening classes.

Businesses:

 Peavey Electronics will make a decision on closing by 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, officials said.

Atlas Roofing will be closed on Friday.

 Lockheed Martin will be open on Friday.

Sporting events:

(Friday 12:30 p.m. update): Division basketball tournaments have postponed their championship games to Saturday. Division 5-2A at Newton has pushed back its four game schedule to start at 4 p.m. The Division 5-3A tournament at Heidelberg has also postponed until Saturday but will push its start times up to 3 p.m. The Division 5-4A tournament at Northeast Lauderdale will push its start times up to 2 p.m. Saturday.
