Lauderdale County School District will be closed today.
Enterprise Schools will be closed today.
Newton schools will be closed today.
Quitman Schools will be closed today.
Meridian Public School District Superintendent Charlie Kent said a decision on whether will be made tomorrow morning, no later than 5:30 a.m.
Calvary Christian School, including their pre-school, will be closed.
Russell Christian Academy will be closed tomorrow and will re-open Monday.
St. Patrick's School will be closed.
Lamar School had already scheduled to be closed tomorrow for their winter break.
Day-care, child care:
Local childcare and daycare centers — Highland Baptist Church, Poplar Springs Drive Methodist Day School, Collinsville — say they will base their decision on closing on what local public schools do.
Meridian Community College will be closed on Friday.
East Central Community College will be closed on Friday.
University of West Alabama and the Demopolis Higher Education Center will close Friday. Faculty, staff, and students should report to classes Monday as scheduled. Evening classes for Thursday night will not be canceled.
Mississippi State University Meridian Campus will be closed Friday. It will be open for Thursday evening classes.
Peavey Electronics will make a decision on closing by 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, officials said.
Atlas Roofing will be closed on Friday.
Lockheed Martin will be open on Friday.
(Friday 12:30 p.m. update): Division basketball tournaments have postponed their championship games to Saturday. Division 5-2A at Newton has pushed back its four game schedule to start at 4 p.m. The Division 5-3A tournament at Heidelberg has also postponed until Saturday but will push its start times up to 3 p.m. The Division 5-4A tournament at Northeast Lauderdale will push its start times up to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The MAIS Class AA boys soccer state championship game at Lamar between the Raiders and Laurel Christian has now been pushed back to Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The game, originally slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. was first postponed to Monday.
MCC baseball has canceled the first day's slate of the MCC/Rush Tournament. The tournament will resume Saturday with a revised schedule, that has yet to be released.
(3:45 p.m. update): The MAIS Class AA boys soccer state championship game at Lamar has been pushed back to Monday at 4:30 p.m. from Saturday. EMCC has also pushed back its baseball season opener from Friday to Saturday at 1 p.m.
There have been no cancellations of division basketball tournaments tonight, but there have been some slight schedule changes. The Division 7-2A tournament at Enterprise has moved its start time from 4 p.m. up to 3 p.m. The Enterprise girls now face Taylorsville at 6 p.m.
The Division 6-4A tournament at Richland has also been moved to a 3 p.m. start. There the Newton County girls face Raymond at 3 p.m., while the Newton County boys meet Raymond at 4:30 p.m.
The only other division tournament schedule change so far is at the Division 5-4A event at Northeast Lauderdale, where the two late games have been swapped. The Northeast boys game against South Jones has been moved to 7 p.m., while the Northeast-West Lauderdale girls game is now at 8:30 p.m. The Quitman girls still play South Jones at 4 p.m. and the Quitman-Laurel boys are slated to meet at 5:30 p.m.
There are currently no schedule changes in the Division 5-3A tournament at Heidelberg or Division 5-2A tournament at Newton.
Elsewhere, the East Central Community College-Gulf Coast basketball games have been moved to 4 p.m. at Decatur.
