State Games names marketing director

MERIDIAN —     The Board of Directors of the State Games of Mississippi announced that Krilecia Gianakos has been named the agency's director of marketing and development.

    “Krilecia is a welcome addition to our team,” said Board Chairman Jeff Smith. “Her talents in fundraising and event management will be helpful in keeping the State Games of Mississippi successful in this, its 23rd year, and into the future.”

    Gianakos is known in the local area for her work with New South Radio as an account executive. She also has experience with the Georgia Games, serving as administrative assistant while working in Georgia. She attended Mississippi State University and has been active in Meridian events and organizations, including the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian, the Meridian Museum of Art, Meridian Main Street and the Young Professionals of Meridian.

    Gianakos is also an ambassador for the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation (EMBDC).

    “As Director of Marketing & Development, Krilecia’s duties include working with our many sponsors and making sure the message of the games gets out to our statewide audience,” said Carolyn Smith, executive director of the Games.

    The State Games of Mississippi is a statewide, amateur sports-fest that kicks off with an Olympic-style opening ceremonies each year in Meridian. This year’s opening ceremonies is set for June 20 and the 2014 games will feature more than 35 sports in venues throughout the state.

    The State Games keeps its entry fees low primarily through the generous donations of sponsors, including Founding Gold Sponsors: Meridian Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Rush Hospital; and Gold Sponsors: AT&T, Maples Gas, City of Meridian, Meridian-Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau/Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors, Structural Steel, WTOK-TV and WMDN/WGBC-TV.
