MEC annual meeting April 10 in Jackson

MERIDIAN —     The spotlight will shine on Mississippi’s creative economy at the 65th MEC annual meeting Thursday at the Jackson Convention Complex from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

    This year, the annual meeting will feature a special keynote message from Peter Sims and entertainment by Mississippi-born Steve Azar.

    Sims is an award-winning author and entrepreneur focused on the creative economy.  He will lead a panel discussion during the morning sessions on "An In-Depth Look at Entrepreneurship and Its Economic Effect."

    Azar, a native of the Mississippi Delta, is a country, blues and rock music songwriter, artist and producer. His debut album was released in 2001 titled "Waitin’ On Joe."

    MEC will welcome Gov. Phil Bryant, MEC 2013-2014 Chair Haley Fisackerly, MEC 2014-2015 Chair Alveno Castilla and Miss Mississippi Chelsea Rick to the annual meeting festivities. MEC’s 65th Annual Meeting will also feature a special performance from the Nissan Canton Gospel Band.

    The MEC will host a "Mississippi Creative Economy Panel," as part of the morning sessions, which will feature a group of entrepreneurs from across the state that will address the impact of the creative economy on Mississippi's economy.
