Eddie Levert comes to Meridian

MERIDIAN —     If you asked him, Eddie Levert of The O’Jays might tell you that it’s just a number. When he comes to the MSU Riley Center at 7:30 p.m. on June 7, he’ll be just days away from his 70th birthday. But you won’t think of his age when you see him on stage, singing favorites from more than five decades of making his mark in the world of soul, R&B, and disco. A pre-show party will be held at 6 p.m.

Cofounder of the legendary group The O’Jays, Levert and his gruff, soulful signature sound is easily recognized by three generations of fans. He also recently released a new single, “Last Man Standing,” from his first solo album, “I Still Have It,” which debuted in May.

Levert has also been in the studio with Walter Williams and Eric Nolan Grant, the rest of The O’Jays, recording songs for their upcoming album. The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

Tickets are $46-$52 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at or by calling the box office at (601) 696-2200.
