The Meridian Museum of Art is now accepting entries for its 17th Annual People’s Choice Art Competition, the show that gives Museum visitors the chance to choose the award winners. The deadline to enter the 2008 competition is May 17.
The competition is open to any artist, of any experience level, age 15 or older. Artists can submit up to three pieces of artwork to be considered for the competition. Works of all type are featured in the show, including – but not limited to – oil paintings, photographs, printmaking, watercolors, pottery, assemblages, sculpture, stained glass, pastels, quilts, egg tempera, and mixed media works.
A non-refundable entry fee of $10 is required to enter. Artists can submit their artwork for consideration in four ways: through slides, photographs, digital images, or by submitting the work itself. The Museum’s exhibition committee will choose the works accepted for the show from all submissions.
The opening reception and voting kick-off for the competition will be Saturday, June 7, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Judges in the competition will be Museum visitors. For $1, each person may cast one ballot during the competition. Visitors can vote not only for the Best in Show winner, but also in each of the media categories, which include acrylics, drawings/prints, mixed media, oils, photographs, three-dimensional works, and watercolors.
Voting will continue through 5 p.m. on Friday, July 11. Award winners will be announced at a gala Awards Reception on Saturday, July 12.
The Museum is located at 628 25th Ave. and is open Tuesday-Sunday, from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. To obtain an entry form for the People’s Choice, or for more information, e-mail MeridianMuseum@aol.com.
