2008 Natchitoches Star Contest rescheduled





NATCHITOCHES, La. — Do you have what it takes to be a star? How about a “Natchitoches Star?”

If so, you should showcase your talents at the annual Natchitoches Star competition to be held Tuesday, April 1. The competition will take place at 6:30 pm on the downtown riverbank.

The Natchitoches Star is an American Idol-type of competition in which the singers are judged in various categories such as vocal talent, presentation and crowd response.

Entrants must be 16 years of age or older and do not have to be residents of Natchitoches. There is a $25 entry fee. Entry forms can be picked up at all area radio stations and all Bank of Montgomery branches.

The finalists will perform throughout the day at the Festival on April 5. The winner will be announced during the evening. The first place winner will receive $300, free studio recording time and a chance to have their demo placed with record producers.

This year’s festival features headliners Zydeco performer Wayne Toups and Sony-BMG recording artists JYPSI. There will be a “NSU College Night” on Friday night, April 4. The College Night will feature bands. There will also be a gigantic fireworks display after Saturday’s headliner.

General tickets to the festival are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. Student tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the gate.
