Mississippi Choctaw Indian Fair set July 9-12

CHOCTAW, Miss. – Top country, gospel and rock entertainment takes the stage this year at the 59th Annual Mississippi Choctaw Indian Fair July 9-12.
A new twist on entertainment will be featured this year as three different genres of music, Country, Gospel and Alternative Rock, will be highlighted each night.
Beginning Wednesday, July 9, at 7 p.m., don’t miss your chance to see Choctaw traditions and culture at its finest at the annual Choctaw Indian Princess Pageant as contestants vie for the highly-coveted title of Choctaw Indian Princess.....more>>

  • Coleman Center presents Southern Sounds this weekend
    YORK, Ala. — The Coleman Center for the Arts presents Southern Sounds, a gallery exhibition and downtown mural by renowned artist, Tierney Malone. Opening festivities will take place on Saturday, May 10. A celebration of Malone’s mural and a cookout will begin at 4 p.m. in downtown York. The exhibition opening will continue in the Coleman Center gallery from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  •  Meridian guitarist of Jim Reeves fame dies in Nashville
    He was a young, Meridian guitarist by the name of Leo Jackson, when the legendary and traditional country music star, Jim Reeves, heard him perform at the Hamasa Shrine Temple Ballroom in 1954.

    The Meridian Museum of Art is now accepting entries for its 17th Annual People’s Choice Art Competition, the show that gives Museum visitors the chance to choose the award winners. The deadline to enter the 2008 competition is May 17.

  •  New and retrospective artwork featured in solo exhibit at Meridian Museum of Art
    The new exhibit at the Meridian Museum of Art features recent and career-spanning work by Meridian artist and Meridian Community College art instructor John Marshall. The Museum will host a reception for the exhibit this Saturday, April 26, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6:45 p.m. The reception at the downtown Museum is free and open to the public.
