MERIDIAN —

Lauderdale County emergency officials were searching Saturday night a stretch of the Chunky River downstream from the Stucky Bridge for the body of a 56-year-old man who apparently drowned earlier Saturday evening after a canoe he and two other men were in capsized. The other men were able to reach the bank and contact authorities, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie.

County authorities, along with personnel from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks were trying to locate the victim’s body, but as of late Saturday night, the body had not been found.
