MS--Store Shooting

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — Corinth police say a storeowner shot and killed a man who allegedly broke into his business.

Police Chief David Lancaster says the incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Jewelry Box.

Lancaster says 25-year-old James Thomas Parson of Corinth was found lying on the floor of the store with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Parson died later Tuesday at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

Lancaster says the storeowner told police he found a man entering the store through a window and told him to stop. When the man refused to stop after a second warning and charged, the storeowner shot him, according to police.

Lancaster says the case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
