MS--Grand Gulf

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (AP) — The Grand Gulf nuclear power plant in Claiborne County is back at 100 percent generating capacity.

Plant spokesman Jami Cameron says repairs were completed Wednesday at an area of the plant damaged in a minor fire earlier in the week in part of the main turbine.

Cameron says an oil-saturated piece of insulation ignited in feedwater pump B turbine. The insulation has since been replaced. He says the main turbine was not damaged.

Grand Gulf, a boiling water reactor, was completed in 1985.

The plant site is on the Mississippi River near Port Gibson. It is the only nuclear plant in Mississippi.
