Attorneys want Seale released from jail

JACKSON (AP) — Attorneys for a reputed Klansman convicted in the 1964 abductions of two teenagers say he should be released from prison pending appeals in the case.

James Ford Seale was convicted last year on kidnapping and conspiracy charges in the abduction of Charles Eddie Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee. The two were found dead in 1964.

Seale’s conviction was overturned in September by a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals who said the statute of limitations had passed.

Federal prosecutors appealed. The full 5th Circuit has agreed to hear arguments before deciding whether to uphold the panel’s ruling.

Seale’s attorneys asked the court Monday to release him while the matter is resolved.

A similar request was rejected last month.
